Double Chin & Poor Jawline Definition
A blurred jawline can come from fat, skin, structure - or all three.
A double chin or poorly defined jawline is not always caused by body weight. Some slim patients have submental fullness, while others develop a heavier lower face after weight change, ageing or changes in skin support. The treatment depends on what is actually creating the contour.

What Can Blur the Jawline?
Possible contributors include submental fat, skin laxity, a small or retruded chin, limited jaw projection, jowling, facial volume distribution, neck anatomy and overall body-weight changes.
Why Diagnosis Matters
A treatment designed to reduce fat will not correct a structurally weak chin. Tightening skin will not remove substantial fat. Adding jawline filler to a face that is already heavy can make the lower face wider. The dominant cause needs to be identified first.
What We Assess
We assess the chin in profile, jaw width and projection, submental tissue, skin laxity, jowls, neck contour, facial proportions and weight history. The aim is to decide whether the issue is primarily structural, soft tissue, skin quality or a combination.
Possible Treatment Strategies
Facial contouring
Strategic chin or jawline treatment may improve proportion and definition when skeletal or structural support is an important contributor.
Skin tightening and collagen support
RF microneedling or other appropriate collagen-supporting treatments may be considered when skin laxity contributes to poor definition.
Management of submental fullness
Where fat is a major component, options need to be selected according to the amount of tissue, anatomy and medical suitability. In some cases, a surgical option may offer a more predictable degree of change than non-surgical treatment.
Weight and metabolic context
When recent or ongoing weight gain is the dominant driver, it may be more sensible to address weight and health factors before investing heavily in contouring procedures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can jawline filler remove a double chin?
No. Filler can alter structural definition in suitable patients, but it does not remove submental fat.
Should I lose weight before treating my jawline?
If weight change is significant or ongoing, stabilising weight first may produce a clearer treatment target and reduce the chance of treating a contour that will continue to change.
Can non-surgical treatment give me a very sharp jawline?
Results depend on anatomy and the degree of fat or laxity. Non-surgical treatment has limits, and a realistic plan should reflect them.
